The market for RPA is still small in comparison to other software solutions and, as such, the skillset to use these products are rare and hard to find.
When recruiting for automation developers we look for candidates who are technical and have an interest in software and application development, but may not be a fully fledged software developer. The person must have an aptitude for logic and a basic understand of programming concepts is very helpful as the processes are automated using some of these concepts e.g. decisions, iteration, enumeration, object orientation.
The training provided to new candidates depends on the tool and their development experience thus far. Blue Prism have a foundation training course which is delivered to the candidate via an online environment. The candidate can follow a series of exercises and examples and complete the training in or around 3 days. Blue Prism have recently overhauled their training programming and now offer many different courses for different areas of the product and roles within RPA programme.
